Thanks for stopping by! We were a family of three, until we added one more (cat, that is), making us a family of four. In 2012, we added four more...one husband, two girls, and a dog. We have a full plate as a party of eight!

Adoption, blended families, pets, school, running...it's all here. Pull up a chair and read a while. After you do, please leave a little comment love! It makes me happy...and y'all know...if Momma is happy, then everyone is happy...at least at our house!

Top Reasons We are Glad to be Home

Yesterday afternoon and all day today Gloria has been telling me how glad she is to be home. I finally asked her to tell me why. Here are her top 5 reasons:
  1. I have my mother back!
  2. Screamer and Hannah Cat
  3. Summer adventures are coming.
  4. No trains going by our house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (she asked for 25 exclamation points)
  5. I have my bed to myself. (She had insisted on Maggie sleeping with her. See reason #4 to know why.)
Before I asked her for her reasons I had written down my own 5:
  1. Gloria is here.
  2. My own bed. Dorm bed=uncomfortable=not good sleep
  3. My own shower. Much better than the dorm shower.
  4. Warm purring Hannah Cat curled up in my lap (while I was writing my list). I think I've been forgiven. :)
  5. No alarm clock...at least of the electric kind. I'm not including furry felines or the early rising child.

Home

(written with a little help from Gloria!)

Home again, home again, jiggety-jig.
The bags are unpacked...Gee, that laundry pile's big!

The cats are ignoring us...They were alone for a week.
No purring, no head rubs, they won't even speak!

Gloria is happy, she's home at long last,
Yet amazed at how quickly those three weeks went past.

It's back to reality, with bedtimes and chores.
Tomorrow...a trip to the grocery store!

Swimming and playing and thesis writing too.
There is so much for us to do.

But for now, we are home...together again!

She NEEDS to Hug Me

Gloria has been at her grandparents' house for three weeks. It's been a long three weeks sometimes, but then again it has gone by so quickly. I finished the school year and fought an upper respiratory infection while she was gone. There were a few days between the end of school and my travel to northern VA where I really missed her. The house was too quiet and I just didn't really know what to do with myself. I've been in VA at the seminary for a week and have really gotten a good amount of work done on starting my thesis. I really wish I had another week--I could really knock a big chunk of it out if I did. I half-jokingly suggested that to Gloria on the phone this morning. She wasn't going to hear of any such thing. "NO MOMMA!! NO!! I NEED to hug you! It's been TOO long!" Yeah, I need to hug her too. It has been too long. Just have to hang on 'till tomorrow.

Traveling Thoughts

What a strange day it has been. I drove from home to Alexandria...with quite a few random observations...

  • I had very little "stuff" in my car. One suitcase, my computer, a school bag, and a bag of snack stuff...that was it! It has been years (6 1/2 to be exact) since I have traveled like that! No toys, games, travel entertainment, extra suitcases, strollers, or what ever all that other stuff I pack and haul with us happens to be. And best of all, NO cats in the car yowling about how badly they want out of their carriers.
  • Highway 29 was a nice alternative to I95. It was a pretty drive and really easy except for all the traffic lights between Charlottesville and I66. Is it possible that most of the traffic lights in VA were on that stretch of road today?
  • And, continuing the thought from above...so many traffic lights, so few (acceptable) places to stop for a bathroom break! Guess that was the trade-off for avoiding 95.
  • I realized that every time I have come up here, EVERY time--and that would be 6 times including today--I have never gone home the same way I came. Always different reasons why, and this time is no exception.
  • I haven't lived in a dorm for how many years??? But here I am for this week.
  • I hope the cats haven't destroyed the house yet. Actually, they are probably fine so far...it's only been 12 hours. They're somewhat used to that on a "long" day. But what happens tomorrow, or the next day, or the next?
  • Why, oh why is this whole thesis so daunting to me? Ugh!
  • I really, really, really miss Gloria! Only 6 more sleeps 'til she's back where she belongs!

Pictures

I finally took some film to be developed today. Here are a few of the highlights...

Screamer says "I miss Gloria, so I'm going to sit here and stare out the window some more. When is she coming home?"

Showing off her Easter dress..."Would you hurry up and take the picture?!? The sun is in my eyes!"

Red tulips that matched her dress.

Horseback riding lessons...riding Little Charlie

How happy is she after riding that horse?

Not Much Going On!

It seems that not much has been going on lately. It was the end of the school year. Gloria finished 1st grade and is ready for 2nd. She auditioned for and was accepted into the choir school at our church. And now she is at Camp Magee-Hada for the month of June. Really she is just spending the month with my parents, but it's more fun to call it "camp." It's been really quiet around the house without her. Well, except for the presence of two furry feline creatures who insist on waking at 5:15 a.m., even on weekends or on the first official day of summer vacation (today)! They are both sacked out on the sofa right now. Maybe I should go crawl on them and talk and pull their hair and insist that they get up RIGHT NOW! Or maybe I should just let sleeping cats lie...

It's funny how I have reverted to my "pre-mom" days. Since it's just me around here right now, I haven't felt the need to cook a real dinner every night. Fruit and cereal is ok sometimes, right? ;) And microwaved left-overs while sitting on the sofa watching mindless tv is ok sometimes, too, right? There is definitely less laundry to do and less that needs to be picked up. I've taken a nap just about every day since she's been gone, but I'm chalking that up to a nasty sinus infection that really threw me for a loop (and not the reading I've been trying to do so that I can work on my thesis!).

I know when my Glo-bug comes home we will quickly fall into our summer routine of swimming and local "adventures." I'm looking forward to that. Until then, I think I'll have a bowl of cereal for dinner and try to do some more reading.
