Thanks for stopping by! We were a family of three, until we added one more (cat, that is), making us a family of four. In 2012, we added four more...one husband, two girls, and a dog. We have a full plate as a party of eight!

Adoption, blended families, pets, school, running...it's all here. Pull up a chair and read a while. After you do, please leave a little comment love! It makes me happy...and y'all know...if Momma is happy, then everyone is happy...at least at our house!

How Is It Sunday Again Already???

Look what I had to buy this week...

Because the girl who has eschewed all things sports (with the sole exception of Auburn Tiger football) has decided that she wants to play soccer this spring!  So, I filled out the registration form and wrote the requisite check to go with it.  She was so excited to return it to school.  You would have thought it was the greatest moment of her life!  And then we had to go purchase shoes and shin guards.  Um...yeah...about that...

I've never had to buy any sports equipment!  We walked into a particular sporting goods store and I must have looked totally lost (or completely out of place!) because we had help almost immediately.  Pink was the color of choice, but only because there was no "indigo" to be had.

Someone is eagerly anticipating her first practice and her first game!

Toomer's Corner

I came home from work on Thursday afternoon to have Gloria and my mom tell me about the 'Bama fan who poisoned the 100+ year old Live Oak trees at Toomer's Corner in Auburn.  Gloria had heard about the tradition of throwing toilet paper into the those trees after winning football games from Uncle Will and from reading about it in a book.

(I borrowed this from by brother's Twitter page.)

Then she experienced it for herself after the first Auburn-South Carolina football game last September.

(Not a great picture.  Taken on Will's cell phone.)

Now, she is very sad about the trees.  As she puts it, "That was tradition.  Why would somebody want to ruin that?"  And I know that lots of people would agree with her.

Dreaming of Summer Evenings

I'm tired of the cold weather.  We had another "near miss" this week with wintery precipitation.  Yes, I was the crazy one in the Wal-M@rt parking lot shaking my finger at the grey clouds and telling them that they better NOT drop anything other than rain.  And scraping my windshield is one of my least favorite things to do at 6:00 in the morning!  Makes me wish it was summer time and we could be at the beach.

(granted, this is a lake beach, but it's still sand and water)

Homework Hissies

Can I just say...

I hate homework!

There.
I said it.

(And I'm a teacher.)

But as a parent...

I hate homework.
I hate the fuss.
I hate the drama.
And I really hate checking those 100 addition facts papers!
Heaven forbid I find a mistake on something.  One would think it was the end of the world.

Seriously.

It's just not worth it.

And it's tiresome.

Day
after
day.

Now, if it was just reading homework...I'd have a hard time getting her to STOP doing her homework.

But math?

Oh the pain.
The weeping.
The wailing.
The great gnashing of teeth.

She doesn't like math.
So she doesn't like to spend time on her math.
So she makes mistakes.
So she thinks she is bad at math.
So she doesn't like math.

See where I'm going with this one?  It's a vicious cycle.

I hate homework.

Birthday Weekend!

My baby turned eight on Saturday.

We had her party on Friday night.  She wanted "fancy desserts" instead of a regular birthday cake for her party.  So I made chocolate covered strawberries and got some other goodies (petite fours, dessert sliders, and lemon squares) from the bakery.

She and her friends were impressed with the strawberries.  There weren't any left by the end of the night.

These treats went pretty quickly as well.

What a happy bunch!

The birthday girl.  Doesn't she look happy?
All the girls had a good time eating their desserts and playing games.  This was really an easy party for me.  I didn't have to "entertain" everyone.  They played lots of games from the game cabinet, and made up some of their own, too.  It was loud at times, but that's ok.  I think my neighbor will forgive me.  (The joy of living in a townhouse...that shared wall.)

Before bed, Gloria was talking about how her presents from me are always on the dining room table at her place on the morning of her birthday.  I'm glad she remembered, because I sure hadn't thought about that.  Can't disappoint a girl on her birthday!  I also put the gifts from Maggee and Hada and Uncle Will and Aunt Martha out.

The first present she opened...She was more than thrilled and put it on immediately.  No wondering what to wear today!  Thank you, Maggee and Hada!

I got her a W*bkinz tiger (which she says needs a blue bow around his neck...she LOVES her Auburn Tigers!) and a set of Beverly Cleary books that she had been wanting from the Sch*lastic book order.  Her hair cut was also something she had been asking for, so we did that too.

We went out for breakfast at IH0P with Miss Beth and Mr. Greg, her Godparents.  I'm not sure which was more exciting...breakfast with two of her favorite people, the matching pajamas and slippers for Gloria and her American Girl doll that they gave her, or the gigantic ice cream sundae that arrived at our table after she had finished her breakfast.  I really thought she was going to pop from excitement at that point!  Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me this morning.

The rest of the day was spent playing with new toys and reading new books, watching a DVD, and helping me bake the flour-less chocolate cake for dessert tonight--which earned me two thumbs up and the comment "If I was an octopus, I would give you all my thumbs up...only an octopus doesn't have thumbs, so I'd have to give you all my tentacles up."  (Gotta' get back to gluten-free after the gluten fest we have had these past few days!  We're both suffering in our own ways from it all.)

This birthday has been proclaimed "the best birthday ever" and "totally awesome."

Happy birthday to my Glo-bug!  So glad you had a great 24 hours of celebrating!

Curiosity Almost Killed the Cat!

Tonight was a busy night.  We didn't get home until 6:30, which is highly unusual for us.  And we are having Gloria's birthday party here tomorrow night.  The house was a mess.  I had things to do for school.  Bathrooms needed cleaning.  Floors needed vacuumed and mopped.  Strawberries were waiting to be dipped in chocolate.  So many things to do!

Gloria's bathroom was my first chore to tackle since I couldn't do that after she went to bed.  Bad Cat Screamer followed me upstairs to watch.  I guess he was curious about the scrubbing bubbles I was spraying in the bath tub and on the counter because he jumped in between the bubbles and my target.  Got himself a light layer of white foam on top of his inky black fur.  Not good!

So...Screamer got a bath.  I didn't want him to lick that stuff off of him and have something happen to him! He was very interested in the water as it ran into the tub.  And while he didn't exactly love his bath, he tolerated it quite nicely...for a cat.  No yowling and howling and gnashing of teeth.  I must admit that I didn't know his legs could spread as wide as the tub.  And every toe on each paw was splayed.  His tail was tucked under his body.  But he tolerated his bath.  He knew when I was finished...and tried to climb the wall to escape.  We toweled him off as best we could after which he spent a full hour licking and grooming every single strand of fur on his body.

I think I've been forgiven.  He's curled up under my feet right now.  And he smells good too!  :)

Hope She Doesn't Catch It!

Tonight, on the way home at the end of a third crazy busy day/evening, I was thinking of everything ELSE that is still to come this week and feeling my stress and anxiety level rise exponentially with each thing on the list.  I finally let out a "ARGH!!  I'm so stressed this week!"

Gloria replied, "I'm stressed, too."

Why, exactly, is she stressed?

(Big sigh from the back seat--probably accompanied by a major rolling of the eyes)

"Attitudes are contagious, you know!"

And you know what?  She's right.  I sure hope she doesn't catch my attitude this week or we're doomed!  Guess I need to get over mine before it spreads!
