Thanks for stopping by! We were a family of three, until we added one more (cat, that is), making us a family of four. In 2012, we added four more...one husband, two girls, and a dog. We have a full plate as a party of eight!

Adoption, blended families, pets, school, running...it's all here. Pull up a chair and read a while. After you do, please leave a little comment love! It makes me happy...and y'all know...if Momma is happy, then everyone is happy...at least at our house!

Running on Mother's day

This morning, I ran a 10k in the Friends Run at the local JCC.  I had gone back and forth about signing up for it but The Husband took control and registered me on Friday.  Nothing like getting an email..."Thank you for signing up for the 10k..." and thinking "What?  When did I do that?"

We had done this race last year and it was/is a very hilly course...as is anything around here...but this one seems hillier than most.  I had been fighting a nasty cough and cold for the last two weeks, so I had not been running AT ALL.  I went into this race with absolutely no expectations, other than to finish.

Before Brian and I left this morning, Gloria gave me my Mother's Day present...new bracelets to replace the broken ones and the "marathon mom" charm.  I was so happy to get to wear my running bracelet today.  It has carried me through some tough races and today was no exception.

Our traditional pre-race selfie...even though only one of us was running today...

And off we go...in the back of the pack...in a race that consisted of 61 runners...

After about mile 1.5, I ran the rest of the race pretty much alone.
And about mile 2.5...the whole thing started to pretty much suck.
I was hearing "I had the time of my life..." in my ear...and I think I said out loud..."This is NOT the time of my life...this sucks!" And I was about ready to yank the earbud out of my ear.

And then...I heard the "friends in my phone" from a Facebook group I am part of telling me to "Just run the mile you are in."
And I repeated that...
Over...
and over...
and over...
and over...
And that got me to mile 3...

Then I heard the jingle of the bracelet charms hitting my Road ID and I thought of my marathon...
and all those half marathons...
and the countless other races I have run...
And I reminded myself..."Just run the mile you're in.  You ARE a marathon mom.  You ARE one tough mama and you have the power of the crab.  Just run the mile you're in."
Over...
and over...
and over...

Through mile 4..."Just run the mile you're in.  You ARE a marathon mom.  You ARE one tough mama and you have the power of the crab.  Just run the mile you're in."

Up and down hills

And mile 5..."Just run the mile you're in.  You ARE a marathon mom.  You ARE one tough mama and you have the power of the crab.  Just run the mile you're in."

More hills, winding my way through the neighborhood.

And mile 6..."Just run the mile you're in.  You ARE a marathon mom.  You ARE one tough mama and you have the power of the crab.  Just run the mile you're in."

And finally...
FINALLY!!!
The finish line!

Because I had dug down deep and worked through the suck and heard the words I have read so many times before on my phone...I reached the finish line and crossed it with a smile on my (bright red) face.

I'm not sure a sno-cone ever tasted so good!

I fought hard for this medal today.  I know it's not really "all about the bling" but I fought hard for this today and I'm super proud of it.

Final race results...
54th overall out of 61 runners.
4th in my age group...out of 4.
And that's alright by me!
